Orthopedic Medicine
HEALTHPOINTE specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries and disease. Our surgeons are fellowship trained in orthopedic sub-specialties—sports medicine, knee, neck, back, hand, shoulder, ankle, and foot—and take a multidisciplinary approach to care using the highest and best technology. In the event of an injury, a complete evaluation is carried out to diagnose the problem and assess function. Emphasis is always on a conservative non-operative approach to treatment if possible, utilizing medical therapies, pain management, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and acupuncture before surgery is considered or recommended. There is a significant back up panel for other associated musculoskeletal problems that include, general surgeons, neurologists, podiatrists, otolaryngologist, physiatrists, and psychologists.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Should surgery be necessary, our orthopedic specialists perform the latest in minimal invasive techniques when indicated, including arthroscopic and laser procedures. The great majority of minimally invasive surgeries can be performed on an outpatient basis; complications are minimal; and recovery time is much less than for traditional, open procedures
The most common arthroscopic surgeries for work related injuries are:
- Removal or repair of a torn meniscus in the knee
- Reconstruction of knee ligaments
- Rotator cuff repairs of the shoulder
- Repair of labrum and ligament tears of the shoulder
- Removal or repair of loose debris or injured cartilage in the hip, knee, wrist or ankle
Spine Surgery
HEALTHPOINTE’s spine surgeons employ state-of-the-art technologies in collaboration with a panel of spine experts that includes neurosurgeons and neurologists. We specialize in the assessment of occupational injuries to determine causation, establish an impairment rating, and provide a basis for future medical recommendations. Our spine surgeons also serve as independent medical examiners.
Cutting edge technologies, such as minimally invasive spinal fusion, are routinely performed along with major reconstructive surgeries. Our surgeons employ the most recent advances in minimally invasive lumbar spinal fusion, including the ability to perform the fusion surgery through the patient’s side. This technique uses smaller incisions and causes less damage to the surrounding tissues than traditional lumbar fusion.
Following surgery, patients are followed by the surgeon only as necessary. If physical therapy is indicated to return to normal function, patients are referred to our highly qualified physical therapists who work in close collaboration with our orthopedists.
We maintain contact with our clients throughout the course of treatment and provide written medical reports as required.
