Auto Crash Reconstruction
A common cause of injury to employees is a vehicle accident while on duty. This can occur behind the wheel of a company vehicle or in the employee’s own vehicle. An auto crash reconstruction conducted on a company’s behalf can be advantageous, especially in a complex or severe incident. HEALTHPOINTE offers this advantage through an experienced and trained automobile crash reconstructionist.
One of the primary goals of automobile crash reconstruction (ACR) is to describe the events leading up to the collision. For instance, were the brakes applied prior to the collision? Or was the driver of the vehicle aware that a collision was going to take place? The crash events themselves may be completely unknown or simply disputed. There are many factors to consider, such as the size and weight of the vehicles, the direction they were travelling, their position on the road, the motion of the vehicles after impact, and their speed.
Causation is also an important aspect of ACRs. Most collisions involve poor judgment or slow reaction time. Sometimes both parties can be at fault, even in rear-end collisions—more than 90% of all rear-end collision are attributable to inattentive drivers. Automobile crash reconstructionists are trained to identify points of first perception in the impending moments or seconds of a collision in order to help determine fault. By working backward from the impact, he can estimate the collision speed and from that he can place the vehicles on the roadway at a distance from the crash. He can then determine the unfolding events prior to the crash utilizing reaction time and the stopping distance required on a particular road surface for a vehicle travelling at a particular speed.
Through an amalgamation and analysis of events, ACRs can help to determine or re-examine fault in what may seem obvious situations, protecting both our clients and employees from costly lawsuits and protracted legal negotiations.
