Neurology
Neurology is the branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats all categories of disease or impaired function related to the nervous system and the blood vessels that relate to these structures. HEALTHPOINTE neurologists apply principles of physiology and anatomy to help identify the disorder and the implicated anatomic structures.
Medical testing, most commonly electromyography (EMG), is often employed, along with a clinical history of the progression and mode of onset. The neurologist determines whether it is a temporary or permanent process, and medical or surgical treatment is recommended.
Neurological symptoms can include pain, numbness, mental confusion, headache, and dizziness, all of which can significantly impact the patient and the workplace. Neurological conditions range from common to rare—the very rare conditions are usually hereditary or congenital. Common conditions include seizures, strokes, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathy, dementia, sleep disorders and syncope.
