Curious about "Acupuncture" Needling Therapy? Did you know…

Acupuncture (Needling Therapy) is often an ideal way to treat acute and chronic pain because it alters your body’s neurochemistry without medications and their accompanying side effects. Without the risk of invasive procedures or surgery.

Acupuncture is unique in that it relies on the body’s defensive and immune systems for it’s effects. This stimulates the body to produce a predictable response for pain, for muscle or internal organs.

Needling Therapy is the insertion and removal of very slender needles to stimulate neurovascular nodes (acupoints) in order to:

  • reduce pain
  • reduce inflammation and swelling
  • increase blood flow
  • increase range of motion
  • reduce muscle cramps and spasms
  • promote relaxation and reduce anxiety
  • decrease the side effect of medication-induced nausea

Electro-acupuncture is the application of electrical microcurrent on inserted needles. It is used to increase the effectiveness of needling by continuous stimulation of the nodes. It is used when pain medication is reduced or not tolerated and as an adjunct to physical rehabilitation and/or surgical intervention to hasten functional recovery.

Needling Therapy works primarily because of its interaction with the spinal afferent processing system, involving somatic nociceptive (pain), proprioceptive (The unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation; muscle static load, length and position), and autonomic fibers, as well as other nerves of the body that provoke local, spinal, and centrally mediated control. Physiological effects can include endorphin release. Endorphins and the related substances en-kephalins and dynorphins are our body’s opiods (morphine like substances to control pain and induce a sense of well being) the body's natural painkillers.

Proper needle placement and stimulation controls pain and promotes healing which leads to better function. Many injuries respond well with minimal intervention. Chronic pain is effectively treated with patients experiencing relief lasting for months up to years after a complete course of treatment. Flare-ups can also be successfully treated with a short course of additional treatments.
