Hernia Repair
A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue passes through an abnormal bulge or tear in the body. Men often experience hernias from lifting heavy objects or performing other manual labor. Women can get hernias as a result of pregnancy or childbirth.
The symptoms of a hernia are a lump in the abdomen or groin area, which could be more noticeable when lying down. A dull, aching feeling could be present and worsens with movement especially lifting or straining. A hernia will not go away by itself and may get worse over time.
A hernia is usually repaired with a simple, outpatient surgical procedure called the Bard Modified Kugel patch, which lasts approximately 30 minutes. One of our qualified doctors makes a small incision, 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches long, and places a patch on the inside wall where your hernia is located. The pressure from your body holds the patch in place. You will go home immediately after the procedure and have some soreness within the first 24 to 48 hours, but you should be able to enjoy normal activity 2 to 10 days after surgery.
Surgery with the Bard Modified Kugel patch minimizes the risk of hernia recurrence. However, there is a small chance that a hernia will come back. You should be able to resume normal exertion within a few days after treatment and return to work once you are healed.
The only cure for hernia is surgery, and there are two reasons to seek treatment: to prevent the hernia from becoming a more serious health risk; and to eliminate the pain that may be interfering with your normal activities, including your work.
HEALTHPOINTE offers an all inclusive price for simple hernia repair that includes the doctors’ fees and the facility costs. We also offer the Doctor’s Lifetime Warranty for hernia repairs.
