Pain Medicine
The pain management program at HEALTHPOINTE focuses on locating and helping resolve your physical sensation of pain, which can be acute or chronic, short- or long-term. Led by an anesthesiologist and a spine surgeon, our practitioners are fellowship trained and board certified in pain medicine, and they carry out the full range of pain management techniques.
A patient who comes to us with a complaint of pain is evaluated by one of our specialists to assess the severity of the problem and determine the extent to which the pain is limiting normal functioning. Treatment is usually non-operative and consists of medication management or interventional pain therapy.
Interventional procedures utilizing nerve blocks are particularly effective for chronic back pain, reducing the need for narcotics and repetitive office visits. Intractable pain can be treated with advanced techniques, such as spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and intraspinal drug delivery (IDD)
Pain management at HEALTHPOINTE is multidisciplinary, sometimes incorporating other modalities, such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture or biofeedback. Psychotherapy, along with various antidepressant medications, may be employed to treat mild to moderate depression, anxiety, insomnia, and anger issues that often accompany long-standing and inadequately treated chronic pain.
Disorders and injuries to the head, neck, back (including failed back surgery), shoulder, and upper and lower extremities typically require pain management. Pain-related conditions treated at HEALTHPOINTE include, but are not limited to, arthritis, shingles, cancer, vascular diseases, pelvic disorders, amputations, and pancreatitis.
